At Nakatumble, we’re privileged to have access to one of the island’s most breathtaking stretches of coastline - a calm, safe haven perfect for all ages. This special spot is made possible through the generosity of the landowners and we pay tribute to the kastom land owners of Vanuatu’s islands, especially those from Mele Village and Family Malasikoto who share their heritage with us and whose guardianship of the land and sea we deeply respect and appreciate.

From this serene beach, guests can paddleboard straight out to explore some of Port Vila’s most stunning snorkelling spots.

Our Reef Explorer experience is a two-hour guided trip that invites you to see the island from a new perspective - discovering Vanuatu’s extraordinary underwater world just beyond the shore.

A World Beneath the Surface

In Vanuatu, the warm waters, gentle currents, and coral ecosystems make it one of the most rewarding (and accessible) places in the world to snorkel.

With our special access our explorers of all ages, get to start slowly and gently enter at the beach which is ideal for children and beginners, while confident swimmers can venture further out to where the coral gardens flourish in deeper water. That’s where our Reef Explorer adventure begins - and Bill, who knows almost every patch of coral (and perhaps every curious fish!) will be your guide.

What to Expect on the Reef Explorer

It’s a short drive from Nakatumble, island-style, with a few seats in the cab and a few more “fun seats” for the ride. Once we arrive at the beach, there’s a quick briefing and equipment check before you set out to explore.

Along the way, Bill will point out unique coral formations like the "brain" coral, and of course, help the kids spot “Nemo.” You might even be lucky enough to see turtles, dolphins, or dugongs — though no promises; this is nature’s playground after all.

It’s peaceful, unhurried, and surprisingly meditative - an experience that connects you not only to nature, but to the slower rhythm of island life.

One of the joys of the Reef Explorer adventure is its flexibility. Whether you’re travelling as a couple, a family, or a group of friends, the trip can be as adventurous or as relaxing as you like.

For some guests, the Reef Explorer is already included in your Nakatumble package. If not, it’s available as an optional add-on, easily arranged through our team during your stay. And, weather and tides permitting, you might just find yourself booking it again!
