  • To Get Started: What You Need to Know

In Vanuatu, you have the option of celebrating your union with a symbolic ceremony. This allows you to skip the legal requirements detailed below, offering simplicity and flexibility while still requiring the presence of a celebrant. Many couples choose this option as it enables them to manage their budget and handle the legal formalities in their home country.

If you prefer a legally binding ceremony in Vanuatu, the following criteria must be met:

    • Age Requirements: Both of you need to be at least 18 years old to marry. If one of you is under 21, you might need parental consent, so keep that in mind.

    • Pastor and Paperwork: Romina will arrange for a Pastor (celebrant) recognized by Shefa Council to perform your ceremony. Before we can get started with the paperwork, you’ll need to provide a few documents:

    • Passports: You’ll need valid passports for both of you.

    • Birth Certificates: Bring along the original or certified copies of your birth certificates.

    • Proof of Marital Status: If either of you has been married before, please bring a copy of your divorce decree absolute or the death certificate of your former spouse.

    • Proof of Residence: A document with your current address.

    • Affidavit of Eligibility: Sometimes, an affidavit confirming that there are no legal reasons preventing the marriage may also be required.

When it comes to a witness, if you don’t have anyone in mind, no worries - Bill and Romina are more than willing to be your witnesses!

      • Marriage License Application: Weddings conducted in Vanuatu are legally binding and recognised worldwide, however, you will need to notify the relevant authorities, through the Shefa Council.  These forms need to be presented in person so if you are overseas then Romina will complete this step on your behalf, for a fee of 20,000 VATU, in addition to the 100,000 VATU.  We suggest this is completed 28 days prior to your wedding.

      • Waiting Period: There is typically a waiting period after the application is submitted, so plan ahead to ensure you have enough time.

      • As Nakatumble is outside of Port Vila town, the process requires working with the Shefa Council and their wedding form as attached.  As part of the process payment needs to be made by CHEQUE with submission of the form (not on-line or from a remote location), so Romina will support managing this process and physically take the time to go and pay and this process takes time, so please allow for this in your planning.

NOTE it is NOT imperative to have a legal wedding, you could choose to have a symbolic wedding and complete the LEGAL process in you home country

      • Officiants: Ceremonies can only be performed by a Pastor (celebrant) that is approved by Shefa Provincial Council.

      • Locations: You can choose from a variety of venues within the Nakatumble grounds or the sister resorts of Nakatumble.

      • Ceremony Details: The ceremony must be conducted in accordance with Vanuatu’s legal requirements, and it should include the signing of the marriage register.

      • Registration: Prior to the wedding as noted above, ALL documentation would have been lodged and paid for at Shefa Council.  ON the wedding day, the Pastor will prepare the receipt of marriage which goes to the council prior to them printing the marriage certificate.  Once the certificate is issued a soft copy is scanned and emailed to the couple and if you are still in the country you can receive your hard copy, or alternatively it will be posted to you.

      • Certificate Issuance: You will receive a marriage certificate. It is advisable to request several copies if needed for legal purposes or name changes.

      • Name Changes: If you change your name after marriage, update your personal documents and notify relevant authorities.

      • International Recognition: Your marriage should be recognized internationally, but check with your home country for any additional documentation or registration requirements.

  • For your special day at Nakatumble, or one of our sister resorts, Romina can connect you with local stylists who know how to create beautiful wedding looks for all hair types and skin tones.

A quick WhatsApp chat with Romina and your selected stylist can help you share your ideas and styles for you (and your bridal party, if needed).

To ensure everything’s perfect, arriving a few days early allows time for a trial run of your hair and makeup, so you can feel completely confident in your look.

Popular stylists in Vanuatu book up quickly in the peak season, so Romina can help you secure your “beauty team”, so planning in advance is recommended.

We recommend getting your hair and makeup done at a salon in Port Vila for the best experience, but if you’d like an onsite option Romina can help arrange this too.

Here’s to looking and feeling fabulous on your big day!

  • With Vanuatu’s stunning natural beauty and tropical vibes, Nakatumble and its sister resorts make the perfect wedding backdrop.

Here are a few things to consider:

    • Flavours: Popular choices include vanilla, chocolate, and tropical flavors like passion fruit and coconut.

    • Plan Ahead: Wedding cakes take time to design and prepare, so be sure to place your order early.

    • Special Requests: Let us know if you or your guests have any dietary needs. We can accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options.

With Romina’s help, you’ll have the ideal cake to complete your perfect day!

  • Glam Up for Your Big Day: Hair and Makeup Services in Vanuatu
Your wedding day is one of the most special moments of your life, and looking and feeling your best is key to making it truly unforgettable. Vanuatu’s picturesque setting provides the perfect backdrop for your big day, and with the right hair and makeup services, you can ensure that you’re radiant as you walk down the aisle. Here’s everything you need to know about getting your hair and makeup done in Vanuatu.

Local Talent: Port Vila has a selection of skilled professionals who specialise in bridal beauty. Our local hair and make-up artists are experienced in working with various hair types and skin tones and can provide services that suit both traditional and contemporary wedding looks.

Plan a Trial: Arriving in the country a few days before your big day allows you a chance to book a trial.  A trial run for your hair and makeup is essential to ensure you’re happy with your look. During the trial ensure you have discussed your preferences and make any adjustments needed. This will help you feel confident and stress-free on your wedding day, knowing that your look has been perfected.
Consider how your hair and makeup will complement your overall wedding theme and attire. Whether you’re going for a classic, elegant look or a more relaxed, beachy style, communicate your preferences clearly to your stylist. Bring photos of inspiration and discuss how to best achieve the look you envision. Vanuatu’s warm climate might also influence your choice of makeup – opt for long-lasting, heat-resistant products to ensure your look stays fresh throughout the day.

Book Early: Popular hair and makeup artists in Vanuatu can book up quickly, especially during peak wedding season or especially on weekends. To avoid disappointment, book your beauty team as early as possible. Aim to secure your appointment several months in advance to ensure that your chosen artists are available on your wedding day.

On-Location Services: Many hair and makeup artists in Vanuatu offer on-location services, meaning they can come to your wedding venue or accommodation to prepare you and your bridal party. This option provides added convenience and allows you to relax and enjoy the process without the stress of traveling to a salon.

Coordinate with Your Venue: If you’re getting your hair and makeup done at your wedding venue or accommodation, coordinate with the venue staff to ensure that there is ample space and lighting for the beauty team to work. Make sure to arrange for any necessary power outlets, seating, and mirror setups.

Hair and Makeup for the Whole Party: Pamper Your Bridal Party.  Consider extending hair and makeup services to your bridal party as well. Coordinating looks for bridesmaids, mothers, and other key participants can help achieve a cohesive and polished appearance in your wedding photos.  Ensure you have allowed enough time for this to happen, as island time is a real consideration.

On your wedding day, relax and let the beauty experts work their magic. Enjoy the experience of being pampered and transformed into the radiant bride you’ve always dreamed of. With the right professionals and a little planning, you’ll be ready to shine as you celebrate your love in paradise.
By following these tips, you’ll ensure that your hair and makeup are flawless, complementing the stunning Vanuatu backdrop and making your wedding day truly special.
